Convert transparent PNG artwork to PDF

Place PNG artwork into PDF pages and check transparency, white backgrounds and fine edges before printing.

Transparent PNGs can look different against a checkerboard, a dark application theme and a white PDF page. This workflow helps distinguish a viewer background from missing artwork. Keep the original PNG so you can compare visible edges and colors after conversion; a PDF preview is not a replacement for checking the exported file.

Follow this workflow

  1. Choose the original PNG rather than a screenshot of its preview. Avoid converting to JPG first if transparent edges matter.
  2. Set Fit and Auto for an image-sized page, or choose the paper size required by the recipient. Add a margin if artwork must be inset.
  3. Convert and open the actual PDF. Inspect light logos and translucent shadows on the white page, not only in the website’s dark theme.
  4. If the intended design needs a colored background, add that background in your image editor and export a new PNG, then convert that copy.

Check the downloaded result

  • Light artwork has enough contrast on the intended page background.
  • Edges and shadows are not confused with the viewer’s display background.
  • All artwork is inside the page bounds.

When to use another export method

PDFPilot does not add a background editor or guarantee print color matching. A transparent image and white artwork can look blank on white paper even when present.

Does dark mode change my PDF background?

The website theme is interface styling. Choose and inspect the document’s content independently; dark mode is not an artwork background setting.
